Frank O'Dowd's Irish Pub & Grill
Most Saturdays - one 15-20 minute set between 6:30 and 7:15 p.m.
The Irish Dancers perform live on stage most Saturday nights at Frank O’Dowd’s Irish Pub & Grill in Galena, Illinois. The vibrant performances are 15 to 20 minutes long and consist of soft and heavy shoe sets.
Based on the Irish peasant dress worn two hundred years ago, each dancer’s costume features a pleated skirt which is embroidered with interlocking and continuous lines of Celtic designs. A re-creation of the Tara brooch is fastened on the shoulder. The brooch holds a cape which falls over the dancer’s back.
Sets usually begin with soft shoe dances. The dancers’ quick precise movements of the feet excite the crowd. Next the dancers change into heavy shoes and the rhythmic dancing inspires those watching to clap along to the music, stomp their feet and often yell “woo-hoo.”
After the dancers have completed their routines, the live entertainment continues. The pub rings with excitement as talented musicians take the stage.
Irish dance and music are just a few of the many ways The Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel tells the story of Ireland’s rich culture.
